Indian Medical association (IMA) Patiala, in its endeavor to uplift public health especially feminine launched one of its flagship program .. Mission “SHE” . ..Sanitary and Hygiene Education
Program will emphasize the “importance of safe period without any taboo or fear. Meeting the hygiene needs of adolescent girls to decrease risk of deadly infections and cancers among women.” said Dr Nidhi Bansal.
In its pilot phase teams of gynecologists educated students of Arya and Multipurpose schools in two separate outreach programs through interactive workshops about hygiene, nutrition, safe disposal, dos and don’ts.
Dr Poonam Malhotra, Dr Pooja, Dr Ayeena Sood and Dr Nidhi Sood taught making of reusable skin and environment friendly materials along with safe disposal. Samples were also provided for the same. Teams of gynecologists also talked at length about all taboos and asked girls to feel secure that nothing is wrong with menstruation, it is as normal and natural as routine. Some iron rich fruits were also distributed on the occasion.
IMA Patiala plans to continue this mission with a community outreach program in slum of Taffazalpura on 31st January which Dr Neeraj Goyal said will be dedicated to the memory of our departed national IMA Leader Dr O.P.S KANDE.
